  • Wire Hangers - No rubber coated wire or plastic hangers. NO EXCEPTIONS. We do sell hangers and safety pins. Please check out our Hangers & Pins page to find out more. All profits from the sale of pins and hangers are given to charity!
  • 1" or Larger Safety Pins

Once you've downloaded the Index Card document, simply replace the 000's with your own consignor number. The rest: the $ amount, size, description, and optional ND can be written in by hand on the preprinted cards. Go to our Index Card page to see examples. Check your printer manual to determine the correct way to place the index cards in your printer, then print as many cards as you need. Use your printer's 'draft' mode to save on ink. Save this card to your hard drive for future use.

Spending a little extra time getting your items ready will make a HUGE difference on your profits. Clothes that are clean, pressed, and smell fresh, with buttons and zippers closed, look better and generally sell quicker. Sets (under size 10) tend to sell better than separate items. So match up separates if you can. Starch, a little bleach, an iron, or a needle and thread work wonders! The same applies to furniture, large toys and outdoor play equipment. Remove all dirt, grime and marks. Make sure all parts are included; place any small parts in zip-lock bags, then securely attach the bag to the main part.

Launder & Iron your clothes first! Clothing must be on wire hangers only! See our page on How To Consign for more details on clothing guidelines.

  1. Begin by hanging your item on the hanger. With the hanger hook pointing to the LEFT, and the front of the item facing you. Then use one-inch safety pins to secure the clothes to the hanger so they do not slipp off (no tiny pins or straight pins!) Place your 3x5 tag on the right shoulder.
  2. As you pin the tag onto the item, catch both the front and back of the item's material. This prevents the item from slipping off the hanger, onto the floor.
  3. Pin sets (pants, skirt, overall and top) securely together by hanging the top first. Then turn the hanger over and pin the pants by the waist to the backside of the hanger, with the pin catching the top of the hanger to support the pants.
  4. Pants or skirts alone should be hung as the picture shows, pinned at the waist. Make sure the pin goes through the pants/shorts twice or it will slide down and hang wrong. Button all buttons, zip all zippers, snap all snaps.

Multiple Piece Items: Group items together in a plastic zip-lock bag. Pin the index card on the OUTSIDE of the bag. You will seal the top of the bag with packing tape AFTER inspection.

Large Items with Extra Pieces: Put extra pieces into a zip-lock bag and secure to the larger item. You will want to make sure you put a bar code on the large items as well as the bag of pieces. If you write multiple index cards for one item, do NOT put barcodes on all the index cards. Write "1 of 2" and "2 of 3" on the index cards so customers/volunteers know that they belong together!

Shoes: Pin shoes together with a large pin or zip tie whenever possible. You would then pin your index card to the connecting pin/zip tie. DO NOT put shoes in plastic bags!!! No shoeboxes allowed. Be creative attaching your shoes, but do not do something that will ruin them! (example: do not tape them together if when you remove the tape it will destroy the shoes!)

Books & Videos: DO NOT put them in plastic bags! DO NOT tape them together! This ruins the covers when the tape is removed. If you are grouping multiple books or videos together please use a heavy twine or string. Tie the twine around your items as if you would tie a bow on a boxed present. This will catch the items on all sides and prevent them from separating. Be sure to be detailed in your description so if they do get separated our volunteers can place them back together! So, write the titles of each book/video in your set. Pin your index card onto the twine.

Hats: For individual hats, please simply pin a large safety pin at the top of the hat. We use this pin to hang your hats properly so they will sell! Do not put them in a bag. If you are selling multiple hats together, you may put them in a bag. But still place a large safety pin at the top of the bag.

Bedding: If possible, please put bedding into heavy clear plastic bags (like the ones they come in). Do not tape the zipper closed until after it has been inspected. Please adhere index cards to the narrow side of the bag. This way the customers will see the tag as it is displayed. We suggest using a saftey pin and a little tape at the top of the tag.

Use only 3x5 index cards. Fill out cards following the diagram on our Index Card page. Please note that the line drawn 2 inches down from the top is our cutting line. Write your CONSIGNOR# and PRICE above this line. This will help us retag your item if a customer changes their mind, and will act as their receipt for the item. Write your CONSIGNOR#, SIZE, PRICE, etc. below this line as a part of the tag we need.

Description: THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!! Make sure the description is clear enough to help us locate your item if the tag is accidentally removed from the item!! Use the middle lower portion of the card to give a short description of your item. The description needs to be specific. Include Brand Name, color, and style of item. Example: "GAP black dress with red flowers"

Good Phrases To Use: "Washes Well!", "Only Worn Once," "Like New!" Noting the brand name is good. You can include these phrases WITH a detailed description.

Bad Phrases to Avoid: Negative use of words, such as "Never Worn" should be avoided.

Other Ideas: On large ticket items such as furniture & electronics, you may want to point out the retail price so buyers understand what a good deal they are getting. It's also a great idea to attach a picture of that item with the pricing, if you can find it on the internet.

Sizing: When you designate a size please make sure it is numeric, e.g. 10 Girls, 4T Boys, etc.; NOT small, medium, large.

Pricing: See Pricing section below.

Barcode Area On Tag: Notice the area reserved for the barcode and DO NOT write in this area, the barcode will cover it up. After your properly hung and tagged items have been inspected, we will print a barcode for each item. Each barcode reflects your consignor number and the price you have designated for each item. These bar codes are required to "ring up" the item when it is sold. You will then be asked to place the barcodes on the items. This gives you the opportunity to catch any errors.

Making Changes: Do NOT make any changes or corrections on the original tags once they are completed. This is for your own protection. Make a new tag if a change is necessary! We will not sell an item if the tag has been altered in any way.

Pinning The Tag: Use one inch or larger safety pins to pin the tags on (no tiny gold/silver pins, or straight pins), placing the pin horizontally and catching the front & back of the garment and the card twice.

All items must be priced in whole dollars only. You decide the prices of the items you sell. Please be reasonable. Ask yourself if YOU would pay what you are asking. There is a minimum price of $3 on hanging clothing items. This is to encourage you to put sets together vs. hanging a single shirt or shorts to sell. We are not asking you to increase your prices, just to utilize our space better by putting sets together. Please keep in mind that these are guidelines only.

We recommend NOT putting NDs on your items. However, we do understand that some items hold special meaning and if you can't sell it at the price you want, you'd like to have it back. You can place an ND (No Discount) on the lower right hand corner of your index card, please use red ink. This will let the volunteers know to print an appropriate barcode for this item not allowing it to sell at half price. If you are participating as a consignor only and will not be volunteering or donating in order to get your unsold items back, then there really is no purpose for using the ND. Let the item go half price (if it didn't sell already!) otherwise it will be going to charity after the sale is over.
